SDHBA Builds Momentum for the Future
The South Dakota Home Builders Association Board of Directors gathered in Brookings this spring to advance initiatives that will strengthen the Association, support members, and invest in the future of the home building industry.
One of the meeting’s most exciting developments was continued progress on Be Pro Be Proud South Dakota. The Board approved seed funding to advance the statewide workforce initiative and authorized attendance at the national Be Pro Be Proud conference in Nashville. Work is also underway to develop official fundraising materials as the Association prepares to launch its capital campaign and inspire the next generation of skilled trades professionals across South Dakota.
Membership growth remains a top priority. With more than 2,100 members statewide, the Association continues its “Raise the Roof” Membership Drive, providing local associations with resources and incentives to recruit and retain members. The Board also approved renaming the Member Services Committee to the Membership and Marketing Committee, recognizing the important role marketing and member engagement play in growing a strong association.
Workforce development continues to be at the heart of SDHBA’s mission. The Association was honored with the SkillsUSA Distinguished Service Business Award for its continued support of student competitions and career exploration. Board members also discussed expanding partnerships with technical colleges, career and technical education programs, and community organizations to create more pathways into the construction industry.
Legislative advocacy remains a cornerstone of the Association’s work. Following a successful legislative session, plans are already underway for Legislative 101 and PAC 101 educational programs to help members better understand the legislative process and strengthen relationships with elected officials before the next session begins.
The Board also approved several governance improvements designed to enhance communication, committee effectiveness, and organizational transparency. These updates will be presented for formal adoption at the July Board Meeting.
Looking ahead, the Association is preparing for an exciting year of events, including the Area 10 Leadership Conference in Sioux Falls next spring, continued membership initiatives, expanded workforce programs, and new opportunities to engage members across the state.
With a clear focus on advocacy, workforce development, membership growth, and organizational excellence, SDHBA continues to build momentum and strengthen the future of South Dakota’s home building industry.
