State of the HBA Report
The South Dakota Home Builders Associations is proud to present an overview of the organization’s achievements and impact in 2023. SDHBA was charted with NAHB in 1971 and formally incorporated in South Dakota in February 1991. SDHBA has been dedicated to serving our members and advocating for the interests of the home building industry in South Dakota.
SDHBA operates across 28 counties at large and 37 counties within local association jurisdictions, providing essential support and resources to builders, associates, and affiliates. Despite being a lean team consisting of one full-time staff member, one contracted lobbyist and two contracted professional services, we have continued to deliver exceptional service and value to our members.
The 2024 Board of Directors, comprised of 49 positions, 38 of which are voting positions, is pivotal in guiding our strategic direction and ensuring representation from diverse backgrounds. With a focus on fostering a robust membership base, we are pleased to report a total membership of 1,798 as of December 31, 2023.
One of our key initiatives is to provide comprehensive member services and state benefits, including access to health insurance through Wellmark and the BuildSpec Loan Program in partnership with the South Dakota Housing Development Authority. Additionally, our HBA Rebate Program, NAHB Savings Program, and Small Business Growth Partnerships have enabled members to access valuable resources and savings.
In 2023, we saw significant progress in our association promotion efforts, with notable increases in website traffic, social media engagement, and digital magazine subscriptions. Partnerships with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club and the SD Realtors have expanded our outreach and community impact. SDHBA Legislative exposure grew in 2023.
Looking ahead, we are committed to furthering our mission of supporting the home building industry and advocating for policies that promote growth and innovation. With a focus on collaboration, education, and member engagement, we are confident in our ability to drive positive change and empower individuals and communities across South Dakota.
