South Dakota Home Builders Association Winter Board Meeting Recap
South Dakota Home Builders Association Winter Board Meeting Recap
Greetings from the South Dakota Home Builders Association (SDHBA) Winter Board Meeting! The meeting was held at the Chamber of Commerce Community Center in Pierre, SD, on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Here’s a breakdown of the key highlights and discussions from the session:
The meeting began promptly at 8:30 am, with President Tony Kneeland leading the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. Notable guests, Senators Lee Schoenbeck and Casey Crabtree joined us and shared valuable insights on the state’s affairs from the 99th Legislative Session.
Following the introductions, Secretary Amber Underwood conducted a roll call to ensure all members were accounted for. President Kneeland and Second Vice President Kim Hefner distributed voting cards among eligible members, ensuring a quorum for decision-making.
Throughout the meeting, various agenda items were discussed and acted upon. This included correcting the member list to reflect that Jordan Hefner remained as the SD Builder Delegate and Duane Bickett remained as the SD State Representative through the conclusion of the International Builders Show. The group also engaged in financial deliberations under the guidance of Treasurer Daniel Glammeier, who provided a comprehensive overview of SDHBA’s fiscal standing.
Additionally, substantial time was dedicated to reviewing and amending existing rules and policies, spearheaded by Kim Hefner. Discussions revolved around revising travel reimbursements, committee functionalities, and other operational aspects. Updates were shared on the proposed bylaws and policy changes, with Taskforce Chair Kim Hefner guiding members through the proposed revisions and garnering approval for implementation. The revised copies of the SDHBA Bylaws and Policy Manual were delivered to the SDHBA Board of Directors in early February. Members may view and download additional copies by utilizing the members-only portal on the SDHBA website.
The session also witnessed the recognition of outstanding contributors within the SDHBA community. Jay Mendel was mentioned for his exemplary service as a board member, while Darin Howie received honors for his efforts in member recruitment.
Towards the conclusion, plans for future initiatives such as fundraisers were discussed, and congratulations were extended to the Watertown Area Home Builders Association for their creditable member retention rates in the previous quarter.
The Board of Directors Meeting wrapped up, and the SDHBA Executive Committee explored a strategic planning session with Donna Franza from NAHB Advisory Services. Earlier in the year, the full Board of Directors and SD executive officers participated in an online survey that drove much of the conversation during the in-person planning session. That meeting led to a few main goals that will continue to be discussed by the Executive Committee and shared with the full board at the next Board of Directors meeting in April. In essence, the meeting served as a platform for learning, collaboration, and operational updates, representative of the SDHBA’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and progressive community of builders and industry stakeholders.
