Longtime Aberdeen Contractor Cultivates Business Owners

A: Jung Construction Inc. started in business in fall 1976. We are a full service general contractor. We take on all jobs, from the small door adjustment to very large condominium projects such as the area just south of Wylie Park. We also construct and remodel commercial business buildings. I grew up in the Westport area and graduated from Frederick High School. I serve on many groups and on many board of directors. I believe in giving back to the community. As you give back to your community, you will reap unimaginable rewards.

Q: What products or services do you offer?

A: We specialize in addition/remodels that look as if they were always a part of your home.

Q: What makes your business unique?

A: I think that it is our longevity in business and the fact that we take our call backs very seriously — they are our No. 1 priority.

Q: How many employees do you have?

A: Six full-time employees.

Q: What are you most proud of?

A: I am most proud of all of the past employees that are now in business for themselves. I believe there are 16 at last count.

Q: How do you stay competitive and keep up with changes?

A: You have to sell yourself and your service and not price alone. A company must also keep up with anything that is new. I do it by doing a lot of reading, going to home building shows and making sure that if a customer asks about something that you are not familiar with that you admit it and then do some heavy studying on the subject before your next meeting. You must be the expert.

Q: What’s the best piece of business advice you have received?

A: If you are sure that you want to be in business for yourself, then you must be prepared to put in the time that it takes to be a good business person. If you run a small company, you will put in more hours than a regular wage earner — many more. You will also need to be prepared to wear many hats.

Q: What’s the best compliment you’ve received?

A: I just love what you have done to make my home more livable!

Q: What are your goals for the future?

A: I would really like to work for about five or 10 more years before I retire. I need to learn how to fish more!
