The South Dakota Home Builders Association and the South Dakota Education Campus at Brookings have joined together to offer a new program to help promote the advancement of producing skilled laborers in our industry!
As part of SDHBA’s dedication to workforce development throughout our state, the program includes on campus hours, plus “on the job” hours resulting in a license issued by the State of South Dakota Apprenticeship that can be used throughout the country.

Course Description: Starting this fall in Brookings at the South Dakota Education Campus! Do you work in construction and want to advance your career? Join us in September for our new Carpentry program! This is a 2 year Residential Carpentry Program that results in a license issued by the State of South Dakota. This license can be used throughout the country. This program requires 4000 on the job hours throughout the 2 years (these are your working hours) along with 288 classroom hours that will be fulfilled at SDEC campus on Tuesday nights. All book materials are included in the cost of this program. This course is taught by members of the Home Builders Association–all instructors are experienced in the field of construction and have 30+ years of experience in the field of construction. Topics in the program include: Form Building, Rough Framing, Outside Finishing, Inside Framing, Care and use of tools, Woodworking machinery, Drywall, Safety, Mathematics for Carpentry, Power Tools, OSHA-30, Plans and Specifications, Leveling Instruments, Wall and Ceiling Framing, Rigging, Scaffolding, Thermal and Sound insulation, Finish Flooring, Stair Construction Blueprint Reading and much more! Scholarships available! This program will be held at SDEC.
